2. Research

Research what type of systems are available on the market, and what systems are specifically designed for your Industry.

Before speaking to a software vendor, sign up to newsletters to start to receive marketing communications from those companies. If they are doing their jobs correctly they should be sending you information that will detail how their solution will help you to overcome your business pains. You may also receive special offers / promotions.


3. Shortlist

Shortlist the top 2 or 3 solutions and invite them to come and present their solution to you and your team.


4. Complete a functionality matrix

You should now have an idea of your requirements, and what is available on the market. If you have more complex requirements, I would recommend working with a software vendor to create a functionality matrix of your requirements vs the functionality of the solution and order it by priority level.

You should be able to tick off all your ‘high priority’ requirements and identify any areas a system doesn’t cover. The software vendor can then work with you to build your total solution.


5. Ask for a customer reference

Make sure that the solution is proven with a similar company to yours (size, needs etc.). A reference should show you how a similar company has truly benefitted from the system and give you peace of mind when making your choice.
